Before Fashion Week...Part I

Korto Momlu
Over the summer seamstresses and designers are working on the final touches for the opening of Fall Fashion Week. As final touches and hems are being put together other designers were doing makeup and hair to send their models down the runway in the summer heat for  Africa Fashion Week and Caribbean Fashion Week. As a woman of color interested in fashion, it's important for me to highlight these two events before we delve into Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2011 breakdown. As the rest of the fashion world gets excited for the week at hand, I want to remind you all of some other exciting fashion weeks that happened over the summer.

Korto Momlu
First let's start with Africa Fashion Week. As we could expect, Project Runway alumna Korto Momlu kicked off the event and featured her latest collection. Her use of vibrant color and draping was exemplary.

I also enjoyed Gloria Wavamunno. Her delicate use of traditional African fabrics mixed with traditional velvets and chiffon's with perfect cuts makes for perfect evening gowns. This Ugandan designer has recently debuted a few years ago and will surely soon be noticed in the main stream fashion world as a serious threat. She definitely has next and we wouldn't be surprised here at Sasha Fierce Headquarters if she was headlining AFW next year. We will certainly keep tabs on her.

Adama Paris
It wouldn't be a summer fashion show with out a bathing suits. I truly enjoyed Adama Paris' line of suits. These are definitely suits that any girl who loves bright color, faltering cuts and has a beach to head to would truly enjoy. Her Afro-Bikini line is to die for. This Congolese designer is a jet setter and has already made a name for herself in the industry. She has been featured in Vogue and on our favorite site Fashion Bomb. Next summer, we will be rocking one of her suits for sure.
