I've been thinking about who dominates the catwalks after this year's past Mercedes Ben's Fashion Fall Fashion Week in New York (2009) under those white tents and I was pleased to see more brown faces on the catwalks. I remember my obsession with fashion and browsing through fashion magazines probably starting at the young age of 4 or 5 years old when my aunts would bring home Vogue and obsessing about the new fashion looks. Growing up in little Paris (Montreal, Canada,) and having a family of all women, fashion was apart of my genes. My aunt Sonia would rave about what her favorite little boutiques on St. Catherine Street and I remember the manager calling her personally to let her know when new items were in the store.
I wasn't always allowed to go on all shopping ventures but always remembered the ones I did go on. I was allowed to browse the millions of magazines that were scattered throughout the house. I always remember wishing up until I was a teenager that there were more black faces that looked like me in the mags. (For those of you who know me, magazines are always in my car, my office, and you don't even want to see the pile in front of my night stand as I type this blog.)

Now Veronica Webb and Noami Campbell have always been around in my time but Tyra Banks started to make new waves and in my opinion even more so with her show America's Next Top Model. I'm sure some of you may disagree but Tyra really brought brown faces to the screen and made many of those brown models on the catwalk and in the mags popular as many debuted on ANTM.
As we all know it really jumped off with Ms. Pickford. Or at least in my opinion. She was the catalyst for the agencies and fashion houses wanting more diversity.
I mean a whole crop of up and coming new Black Super Models are in the making and it's important that we show them some love at the Sasha Fierce Headquarters. Right now, I'm very proud of our girl Chanel Iman, Jordan Dunn and Jessica White. They might not be everyone's favorite but they are mine. I love their off the catwalk fashion just as much as on. These three women are being requested left and right for all the top designers shows and I loves it. It was time for a new wave of Black Super Models and my top three are:
1. CHANEL IMAN
The Fresh Face
